Teacher of Humanities job summary

We are seeking a humanties teacher who can teacher both Geography or RS, someone who will engage and inspire our students through enthusiasm, subject passion, and a commitment to learning beyond the curriculum. You will believe it is a privilege to work with young people and will demonstrate unconditional positive regard, helping students to grow academically, socially, and culturally so they can confidently stand shoulder to shoulder with any young person, from any background.

At Spen Valley, our community is strengthened by diversity. We value the lived experiences, perspectives, and identities that staff bring, and we recognise that representation matters. We welcome applications from teachers of all backgrounds, particularly those who may be underrepresented in education, and from colleagues whose personal or professional experiences can enrich students’ understanding of the world around them.

We pride ourselves on ethical leadership, integrity, and a culture that balances professional challenge with genuine care and support. We expect colleagues to work hard for our students, while recognising the importance of wellbeing, reflection, and support. Our trauma‑informed, relational approach extends to both students and staff, creating a workplace where people feel safe to be themselves, to ask for help, and to thrive.

We offer high‑quality CPD, including a bespoke professional development package tailored to individual needs and career aspirations. As part of the Red Kite Teaching Alliance, staff benefit from excellent training, collaboration, and shared expertise across some of Yorkshire’s most successful schools. We actively encourage colleagues to contribute to the wider life of the school, to share their voice, and to bring forward fresh ideas that reflect and celebrate our diverse community.

Staff Benefits include:

  • - The opportunity to work with colleagues across the Red Kite Teaching School Hub

  • - Teachers’ Pension Scheme

  • - Employee assistance through Kirklees Employee Healthcare

  • - Staff supervision (counselling and support services)

  • - A range of wellbeing activities

  • - Cycle to Work scheme

  • - Kirklees Vivup lifestyle benefits package

We are committed to creating a supportive and inclusive workplace that recognises the diverse health and wellbeing needs of our staff. This includes being a menopause‑ and endometriosis‑friendly employer and signposting colleagues to wellbeing resources, such as men’s mental health charities, to help everyone thrive.
