What skills and experience we're looking for

We are seeking to appoint an ambitious, talented and inspiring classroom practitioner to teach Humanities subjects across all ability groups in KS3. This will include the possibility of Teaching History, Geography and RE at KS3. At KS4 it will include teaching GCSE in your specialism. The potential for A level teaching at our Beyton site also a possibility.

The successful candidate will have excellent subject knowledge and the ability to inspire and motivate our ambitious and hardworking pupils. Following a department restructure, you will join a newly formed Humanities and Social Sciences faculty, who pride themselves on their innovative approach to supporting every student to achieve their full potential. You will benefit from entering a new department who are keen to work collaboratively and welcome forward-thinking initiatives. We are able to offer new colleagues’ advice, support and professional development opportunities in a friendly, positive and creative environment.

What the school offers its staff

Thurston Community College is a large popular mixed comprehensive school comprising of two distinct and specialist sites. Thurston Campus, for students from Year 7 to 11 is situated four miles east of Bury St Edmunds. Thurston Sixth; Beyton Campus is located nearby in the village of Beyton, offering bespoke centre of excellence for students in Year 12 and 13. Both locations provide an exciting, dynamic learning environment, where students display a positive attitude to learning making good progress.

Humanities is a thriving department with a proven track record of outstanding student achievement at GCSE and particularly at Advanced level. All Humanities lessons are taught in specialist rooms at both the Thurston and the Beyton Campuses. Humanities is a popular subject in the Sixth Form with a large uptake at Advanced Level where courses in A Level Humanities are currently offered.
