This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic and forward-thinking department that values both academic achievement and personal development. The History and Religious Studies departments at Crawshaw Academy are part of a welcoming, and supportive team within the wider Humanities faculty. Student engagement and interest in the subjects remains consistently high, reflecting the positive learning environment and strong curriculum offer. Our classrooms are well-sized, well-equipped with interactive whiteboards and visualisers, and conveniently located near one another—making collaboration and resource-sharing easy and efficient.
About Our Curriculum
We are proud of our strong track record of academic success, with students achieving excellent results in AQA GCSE History and Religious Studies. In the 2025/26 academic year, the RS department will be delivering the GCSE course to one Year 11 class and two Year 10 classes, with a focus on Christianity and Islam as the main religions studied. In History, we will have nine GCSE groups running across the two-year groups and currently study Britain and Health, Conflict in interwar Europe, Elizabethan England and Germany, 1890 - 1945.
The History curriculum has been designed to give students the opportunity to study a range of different societies across Key Stage 3 whilst following a chronological approach that enables them to place key events and ideas within a wider context and to develop their own critical thinking skills. We also offer a range of trips including a visit to Berlin for students studying GCSE.
The RS curriculum is thoughtfully sequenced and fully resourced. Staff benefit from comprehensive schemes of learning and a culture of collaboration, with resources and ideas routinely shared across the team. At Key Stage 3, all six major world religions are explored in chronological order, alongside a range of non-religious worldviews and ethical debates, fostering critical thinking and respectful discussion.
