Teacher of ICT and Computing job summary
The Leigh Academy has a great opportunity for a talented, inspirational and dynamic Teacher of ICT and Computing to join us for January 2020. ICT and Computing at The Leigh Academy has a long history of success. The Learning Area has achieved outstanding results both at GCSE and across a range of courses offered at KS5. Individually, students have achieved outstanding performances in CIDA examinations at Key Stage 4 with over 40% of students achieving an A* grade at Level 3. Computing is a popular choice with many students studying the subject at GCSE. The majority of students become accomplished programmers in both structured and object-oriented programming methodologies. The majority of Advanced Level ICT students proceed to higher education courses in Computer Science or related courses.
The Learning Area has over six fully-equipped specialist learning areas each with a capacity of 30 networked PCs running Windows. The Learning Area has five teachers employed full time teaching ICT and Computing. The curriculum at Key Stage 3 has been redesigned recently with considerable success and prepares learners for the MYP. Students are now given opportunities at Key Stage 3 to program in Scratch, Python and Web Coding as well as opportunities to develop algorithmic and computational thinking skills. BTEC ICT is offered currently at Key Stage 4 as a Core choice and Creative iMedia as an option, in addition to GCSE Computing.
The Learning Area aims to develop its students by offering opportunities to work on projects of interest to local companies and our primary feeder schools. For example, in the last few years, students have organised and run classes in a local primary school and also an after-school games programming club for younger students at the Leigh. Students have also had the opportunity to visit destinations such as New York, San Francisco and Tokyo to explore further avenues of ICT and cutting edge technology and take part in workshops on coding, game and app creation.
We are now seeking to appoint an outstanding, talented, inspirational and dynamic teacher with an excellent track record of raising achievement in their own classes. The ideal candidate:
- Will raise achievement and deliver excellent academic outcomes
- Can model excellence in the classroom
- Has the training skills and experience to make a significant impact on the quality of teaching and learning
- Has the initiative, energy and enthusiasm to enhance community and external performance opportunities
- Is able to evaluate and improve their impact and effectiveness
- Will provide an active link with other key colleagues to support the research, development, innovation and evaluation of teaching & learning across the school
This post will give the successful candidate outstanding experience as a teacher, working alongside high performing and enthusiastic colleagues. All posts are focused on delivering ‘outstanding’ outcomes for all students and groups of students and realising the highest rigour and standards in pedagogy, learning, behaviour, aspiration, enjoyment, progress and attainment in ICT and Computing.
