Teacher of Languages job summary
The Languages Faculty at Essa Academy are seeking to recruit a dynamic, motivated and talented individual who is ready to go above and beyond for the students at Essa Academy. We are looking for someone who is a team player, keen to raise academic achievement and ensures all pupils at KS3 and KS4 succeed. Ideally, the candidate must be able to offer two languages (French and Spanish) up to KS4 but this is not essential.
At Essa Academy, we offer three languages (French, Spanish, Urdu) as it is important for students to understand the importance and relevance of language learning and we want to give them great life opportunities. Our curriculum is well-planned and ensures students understand the world they live in and build a strong knowledge and understanding of the language from Year 7 onwards. We also deliver French and Urdu lessons at Essa Primary as it is paramount we build on students’ prior knowledge from KS2. We want our students to be confident in speech and in writing as we want them to have the ability to communicate with confidence with native speakers.
Our curriculum is detailed, challenging and the use of the target language is common practice. Retrieval practice is embedded to teachers’ routines
which allow students to embed key vocabulary in their long-term memory.
One of our priorities is for students to be able to recall vocabulary, phonics and grammar without teachers’ input so it becomes
automatised. We strongly believe in the power of language learning and create a love for languages in each of our lessons. Our curriculum engages students of all abilities and needs. An excellent practitioner
would be a great addition to our growing department.
The successful candidate will be a passionate and inspirational teacher with a real desire to build resilience in their students and improve teaching and learning. Upholding our high standards and a
commitment to achieving excellent results for our students is essential.
To allow teachers to do this effectively, we offer a level of PPA which is significantly above the average for secondary schools, which
allows our team to collaborate and move the faculty forward at a rapid pace while maintaining work life balance.
We particularly welcome applications from newly qualified teachers or main scale teachers with a thirst for progression. For a suitable candidate we will offer a significant recruitment enhancement package of £5,000 or a partly funded Masters Degree.
This role is a permanent position.
