Teacher of Mathematics job summary

September 2020 will see further significant student growth for the Sir Robert Woodard Academy, based on the South Coast near Brighton; as such, we have some exciting new vacancies available, including the need for a maths teacher. Do you want to work in a supportive and forward-thinking team that is committed to teaching maths based on the best and latest research?

As an academy specialising in maths, we are at the forefront of implementing a mastery approach to teaching maths. We do not simply use third party materials but instead continually look to adopt and adapt the most successful evidence based strategies to ensure our students have the best possible outcomes. We work collaboratively, both within the department and with other schools, to continually review our practice and to ensure that our human resources are used as efficiently as possible.

The Maths department has seen results improve year on year. The students that have benefitted from our mastery approach throughout their secondary education are making particularly impressive progress, thereby validating our approach and ensuring we have the backing of the wider Trust of which our Academy forms part. We aim high and we are looking for others to join us in developing and delivering the best maths learning experience for our pupils.

We are seeking someone who loves asking, designing and improving beautiful maths questions and wants to join a team of like-minded maths teachers. You must believe that everyone can achieve!

Quotes from last Ofsted report, Feb 2018:
"Staff morale is high."
"Pupils’ behaviour is good…Pupils come to lessons ready to learn.”
“An atmosphere of mutual trust and respect are strengths of the school.”

A Staff well-being survey commissioned externally in September 2019 for SRWA revealed that:
These were some of the areas Staff considered to be ‘outstanding’:
Staff morale
Job satisfaction,
Opportunity for staff to offer ideas
Opportunities for staff professional development
Support from line managers,
Appreciation of staff achievement/contribution,
Induction of new staff
Students' respect for staff/others.

We are committed to meeting the needs of all students by challenging them to achieve their potential. The Mathematics department is comprised of a dynamic team with a strong, shared purpose and commitment. The department is housed in our modern building with state of the art technology in every classroom. The Academy is partnered with a world leading company RICARDO Engineering which provides outstanding opportunities for our students and staff within the STEM subjects.

If you want to work with a team of people who love what they do and are prepared to go the extra mile in order to achieve results, and you want to work near Brighton, with all its rich cultural opportunities, then this may be the place for you.

Students and staff at SRWA are lucky enough to benefit from a purpose built school with outstanding facilities. As well as a reputation for excellent work in STEM we are also known for our superb performing arts offering and are home to the Sussex Bears Basketball Academy which brings superb sporting expertise.

The successful candidate will:-
