What skills and experience we're looking for
We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, committed and forward-thinking Teacher of Mathematics.
The successful candidate will have:
- High expectations of all students, have the ability to contribute to the corporate life of the school, commitment to their own professional development, commitment to equal opportunities
- Evidence of skills in learning, improve teaching and using data to inform effective interventions
- The ability to work within a strong team of specialist mathematicians embedding an ethos of high expectation of students
- Ability to inspire and motivate learners, ability to plan innovative lessons on the basis of learning objectives and information about prior learning, ability to select and prepare appropriate resources, ability to plan the deployment of Learning Support Assistants and other adults who support students’ learning.
In 2022, 73% of students gained grade 4+ in GCSE Mathematics and 20% grade 7+. These were the second highest percentages the school has ever had. Over the last 5 years the school has improved significantly. There is a resolute ambition for all students to achieve their best (Ofsted 2018), brought about by new approaches to improve teaching, learning and assessment in both key stages. This has rapidly raised standards for pupils across the school

Location and History
John Hanson Community School is a thriving, mixed gender 11-16 community school in South West Andover, Hampshire, with almost 1000 students. The school has a rich history, dating back to 1582, and was previously known as Andover Free School and Andover Grammar School. In 1974 the school was renamed John Hanson School in honour of its founder, and moved to the current site on Floral Way in 2001.
