What skills and experience we're looking for

This is an exciting opportunity to teach in one of the highest achieving schools in Bristol teaching mathematics across all year groups. We provide strong pastoral support and monitoring but also encourage independence in learning and study habits. Redland Green School is a very special place to work, and we are looking for an exceptional candidate to join our experienced team.

The Mathematics department at Redland Green School currently consists of 15 members of staff. Students in Key Stages 3 and 4 are set according to mathematical ability and we teach in half-year groups. As part of the North Bristol Post-16 centre, Redland Green currently teach 9 ‘A’ level groups including a large and thriving further mathematics class, as well as Core Mathematics groups. Lessons are planned and delivered using a wide variety of teaching and learning styles, making good use of ICT. The department’s schemes of work are planned in a highly collaborative way and make use of resources such as Geogebra and Desmos.

Within Mathematics lessons the pace of learning is high; the students are strongly motivated, cooperative and engaged with their learning. As a result, we are very pleased with the attainment and progress of our students. In our most recent external examinations: 51% of year 11 students gained a 9-7 and 90% gained 9-4 in Mathematics and at A level 73% of students gained A*-C. As an indication of the mathematical ability of Redland Green students, it is usual that each year when we sit the UKMT Maths Challenges, a number of students will progress through to the invitation only rounds of the competitions.
