What skills and experience we're looking for

The Mathematics department is a strong collaborative team, determined to deliver a curriculum that builds confident mathematicians who are ready and prepared for the next stages in their learning and life. We work together to plan, deliver and enhance our curriculum for all students at Staindrop, and have strong links across the ALP family of schools to further the opportunities available to our learners. We want our students to love Maths as much as we do, with a focus on mastery through an ethos of continuous personalised improvement. Our vision is to ‘fuel students with the desire to reason mathematically’ by equipping students with the skills needed to communicate their ideas using the beautiful language that is mathematics. You will be joining a team of four staff, led by experienced, successful practitioners including the current head of mathematics and current assistant headteacher. Other current department members have successfully completed training and ECT programmes at Staindrop and across the ALP trust schools. We run our own bespoke curriculum from year 7 to 11, which continues to evolve and strengthen year-onyear and enter students for Edexcel GCSE Mathematics and AQA Further Math’s Level 2 and Statistics.

Staindrop Academy is a very well regarded, high achieving and popular school at the heart of a rural community. Set on the western edge of the historic village of Staindrop and overlooking rolling fields and farms, Staindrop is without doubt one of the most attractively situated schools in the region.
Staindrop Academy is recruiting a number of staff due to the rapid growth we have seen over the past two years. While we are delighted with this growth, we remain a small school, working closely with our local community and partner primary schools.
Staindrop is a highly successful, inclusive school where we strive to ensure all students make exceptional progress whilst focusing on their personal development, safety and wellbeing. We have high expectations, ensuring that every student, regardless of their starting point can be ‘Happy, Valued, and Successful’.
We live out our Ethos of ‘Your Child is our Child’ and greatly value the strong relationships between staff and students but equally we work closely with parents, carers, governors and the wider community to ensure the success of our students. We are incredibly proud of our caring school, the kindness of our students and the positive relationships which are at the core of our community.
Our students are encouraged to develop a thirst for learning through a range of exciting and challenging opportunities both within and outside the classroom. We provide a purposeful and stimulating learning environment where excellent behaviour, hard work, independence, personal responsibility and student participation are central to everything we do.
We aim to inspire confident learners who will thrive in an ever-changing world, equipping every student with the personal skills and aptitudes to flourish and academic results of which they can be proud.
We are determined to provide an outstanding education for all, to care and support individuals and stretch and challenge every student so that they achieve their very best and fulfil their aspirations.
Staindrop Academy is a member of the Advanced Learning Partnership Trust, providing a wealth of opportunities across County Durham and Darlington for professional development and collaborative working.
