Job summary

 A talented Mathematics teacher is required to join a very dedicated and committed Maths Department on a full/part time basis from 1 September 2021. The successful candidate will be required to teach Maths at all levels as well as contributing to continuing developments within the Maths Department and the wider school. This opportunity is a fixed term contract until 31 December 2021. 

The Maths Department teaches in modern purpose-built classrooms with electronic whiteboards and wonderful countryside views!  Students are set by ability from when they join the school in Year 7, and regular monitoring ensures that they are appropriately challenged.  

The Maths Department consistently produces excellent examination results year on year; in 2019 75% of students achieved Grade 4 (standard Pass) in English and Maths. Maths and Further Maths are very popular choice at A Level and many students then move onto maths based high education courses, including Oxbridge.  

We are looking for someone who can: 

• be an inspirational classroom teacher who is dedicated to provide high quality teaching and learning.  

• drive students to raise standards to achieve at all levels; and  

• demonstrate commitment to the values and core beliefs of Backwell School  

Backwell School is a part of the Lighthouse Schools Partnership Multi-Academy Trust. In 2020, Ofsted judged both the School and the Sixth Form to be ‘Good’. At present, the School has 1407 students in Years 7 to 11 and 310 in the Sixth Form.  Our Trust values excellence and collaboration and has a key focus on staff development will deliver exciting and effective learning to our children and young people. Backwell School also leads the North Somerset Teaching Alliance (NSTA) program for trainee teaching staff.

About Backwell School

Backwell School is a large, vibrant, very popular mixed comprehensive school situated in Backwell, North Somerset, about 6 miles south of Bristol. We have a long-standing reputation for combining academic success for students of all abilities with a fully rounded and enriching educational experience. In 2008 and again in 2013 both the school and the Sixth Form were rated as “outstanding” by Ofsted. Backwell School became an academy in 2011 and joined the Lighthouse Schools Partnership (LSP) multi-academy trust in January 2018.
