Bruntcliffe Academy was welcomed into the fold of The GORSE Academies Trust in 2015 and since then has seen massive improvement in its work. Under the leadership and guidance of Sir John Townsley, the trust emphasises simple but important values: outstanding behaviour in classrooms, around school and in the community when our students proudly represent us; high academic expectations so that students may achieve to the best of their efforts and obtain for themselves the gift of choice in moving onto fulfilling Post-16 college courses, training and careers; enjoyment of learning through a sense of awe and wonder in their lessons and extra-curricular activities.
Since 2015 the school has transformed beyond recognition; where it was in the bottom 5% of schools nationally in 2015, by 2017 it was in the top 45% for Progress 8. The examination results for 2018 show a further significant shift in progress and attainment, and now place us in the top 25% of schools nationally!
Bruntcliffe Academy is on the swell of a rising tide. Our students, their parents and our colleagues are committed to the mission of the academy and are conscious of taking part in a great transformation; one where they will be able to look back and reflect upon the contribution they have all made to the academy and the community in turn, not only in terms of academic achievement but also in terms of building an academy fit for the future. The mission is a very simple one: we seek to provide equal opportunity for students of all prior attainments, to encourage them to go beyond what they think they can achieve, to enjoy learning and to aspire to lead healthy and happy lives. To do this, we provide for them: safe, nurturing learning environments where they can contribute to discussion and work in silence on challenging material, to build resilience (the Purple Zone); opportunities for personal growth and enrichment (the Bruntcliffe Festival of Culture), student leadership, debate and public speaking (our Socratic Debate programme) and, as part of The GORSE Academies Trust, prioritised access to Elliott Hudson College, Ofsted rated Outstanding, and one of the leading academic Post-16 providers in the country.

About Bruntcliffe Academy
Bruntcliffe Academy, previously Bruntcliffe High School, joined The GORSE Academies Trust in September 2015. Along with The Morley Academy, Bruntcliffe is situated centrally in the town of Morley itself. Over the course of recent years Bruntcliffe High School had failed its children and a position had established itself whereby families living on the same streets in the town were receiving a totally different standard of secondary education. The examination outcomes of 2014 and 2015 placed Bruntcliffe High School in the bottom 10% of schools nationally for the achievement of its students. To look at those examination outcomes in detail please go to the Department for Education website. So concerned were parents regarding standards at the school that in September 2014 hundreds of them met to protest to the local authority and the school’s governing body. As a consequence of that action The GORSE Academies Trust was asked to sponsor the school. Bruntcliffe Academy is slightly smaller than other secondary schools nationally, however, due to its improved reputation in the community we are confident that it will be oversubscribed by September 2018. The great majority of students are of white British heritage though the proportion who are classified as being disadvantaged is higher than that typically found nationally. Under the exceptional leadership of its Principal, Chris Stokes, the academy will continue to improve at a rapid pace making it an exciting place to work. We are also particularly excited about plans which are at an early stage to seek permission to demolish the current buildings and to build brand new, state of the art facilities by 2020 for the Bruntcliffe community. 0113 2523 225 email@example.com www.bruntcliffe.leeds.sch.uk Bruntcliffe Lane, Leeds, LS27 0LZ Principal: Mr C Stokes Chair of Gov: Tarsilo Onuluk Opened: September 2015 0113 487 8888
