The Mathematics Department consists of a group of specialists who are continually striving for excellence. At the heart of the department is a strong and well sequenced curriculum, that encourages students of all abilities to engage and foster a love for the subject. We are fortunate to be well resourced in technology within classrooms, sporting the latest in Prowise boards. The department also continue to seek ways to create a blended learning classroom with the school Chromebook programme.
The Mathematics department are fortunate enough to a high proportion of dedicated learning hours in comparison to other schools in Hertfordshire. All students at KS4 work towards the Pearson GCSE specification for mathematics, and some students are also entered for entry level qualifications. Students are regularly assessed in both key stages, which enables the opportunity to adapt the curriculum to accommodate for any support needed.
Students are encouraged to engage in learning outside the classroom with the use of Sparx. The Mathematics department have also supported students in taking part in regional and national competitions.
Continued professional development is key to the success in the classroom, and we encourage staff to take part in training within our Trust training hub, and also as part of the National Professional Qualifications. The department has a variety of experience, and all members of the team benefit from relevant training, mentoring or coaching.
