What skills and experience we're looking for
This is a great opportunity to join The Misbourne’s mathematics team for the right candidate. The Misbourne is an aspirational and friendly place to work where every student and member of staff is a valued member of our community. Whether you are starting out in your career or looking for your next challenge, our Maths department has a breadth and depth of experience, with colleagues who thrive in a hard-working, friendly and innovative team built over many years. With strong and consistent leadership you can be assured of a genuine commitment to supporting your day-to-day practice and long-term professional development. We are a Google school, incorporating blended learning within our Year 7 lessons and have developed our fully resourced curriculum to ensure it fully supports the needs of our learners. Mathematics is a popular A-level subject at The Misbourne and each year we have students achieving top grades at both GCSE and A-level.
Our values at The Misbourne for both students and staff are learning, kindness and excellence; these permeate everything we do, starting with our staff. At The Misbourne we acknowledge that teaching is a demanding profession and therefore looking after our staff is of highest priority. If you join our staff team, you will be part of a caring, kind and supportive group of professionals who really do share a sense of belonging and camaraderie. We actively look at ways to give staff time back, whether this be with our two week October half term, a flexible PPA which you can take at home every fortnight, or flexible use of gained time in the summer term.
We have a fully planned and resourced centralised curriculum, meaning we do not expect teachers to go home and do individual planning. Instead we have development time across the year so that curriculum teams can collaboratively plan and talk about teaching; continuing to develop professionally and reducing workload. If you want to work in an academy with high regard and value placed on its staffing body, then please do come and visit us at The Misbourne.
If you are an applicant beginning your career, we have successfully guided Maths staff through ITT and their initial ECT years, providing a supportive environment to help teachers develop and grow in confidence and in their practice. We currently have one ECT teacher who trained with us previously, and the rest of the department are experienced subject specialists. The Misbourne is a school that supports and challenges ECTs to make excellent progress in their first years of teaching, with support provided from both within the department and from our lead practitioners and Initial Teacher Training Coordinator, alongside the extensive CPD provided for all staff to ensure the development of best practice.
