Job summary

We are looking to appoint a Mathematics specialist with a vision and passion for the subject. The teacher would join a dynamic team of teachers who work together closely to provide a challenging and dynamic curriculum.

Bourne Community College is a growing and unique 11-16 mixed comprehensive Trust school, valued and supported by the local community. We have been awarded the Unicef Rights Respecting Schools Award ‘Gold’, which very few secondary schools hold in the country, for the second time.

We recognise that we have fundamental role to play in preparing all our students for their future. We want our students to be numerate in a way that reflects their potential, to leave school free to pursue the subjects they wish to study. All our students will be prepared and entered for GCSE Maths. As a school we have a robust programme to stretch the more able, or those who are called to further mathematical study (STEM); we prepare some students for the extra qualifications of Statistics GCSE and the FSMQ OCR Additional Maths level 3 qualifications. Through our Entry Level Certificate pathway, students who struggle with GCSE experience success on their journey towards GCSE. The progress students make in maths has been a consistent strength of the school.

We encourage students to make time and space at home for study with regular homework also teaching them how to revise specifically. Support clubs, homework intervention and revision classes are provided to support students who need it. Our curriculum follows a spiral model with areas of maths being mapped out to encourage interleaving between various areas of maths. Teachers in maths routinely challenge their students and demand they think more deeply.

You will be able to demonstrate our key foci:-
• ASPIRATION – you will be passionate about teaching and excited by learning, with high aspiration for yourself and all students.
• INNOVATION - you will have the capacity to deliver engaging and challenging lessons that make effective use of meta-cognition and data tracking to enable students to make high levels of progress.
• MOTIVATION – you will have excellent subject knowledge and the ability to communicate this effectively using a range of strategies to motivate and support student progress.
