What skills and experience we're looking for
At Horsforth School we believe in ‘opportunity and achievement for all’, are committed to the highest outcomes for students and to develop the best opportunities for staff. We are committed to being a ‘Greenhouse School’. We are seeking to appoint a highly skilled, inspiring and forward-thinking colleague to join our maths team. Whether you’re experienced or newly-qualified, you will have the opportunity to join a highly successful department with a supportive and collaborative ethos. Right now, we are looking for an inspiring teacher who can bring mathematics to life – and help us create a nurturing environment within which everyone can reach their full potential.
Join us and you will be part of a fantastic Mathematics Department with a strong team ethos. Our school is dedicated to evidence-based practice with a focus on Rosenshine’s principles of instruction, and we have a strong emphasis on incorporating educational research in to the classroom. We believe in working collaboratively, sharing ideas and supporting each other to achieve great things as we develop innovative teaching and learning strategies.
The department has a strong track record for results having 86% of students at GCSE achieving Grades 4 to 9 last academic year. The overall progress figure being +0.71 which is significantly above the national and regional average. In other words, there’s never been a better time to join us. Results at post-16 are also consistently high with 49% of students attaining A*- A Grades at A Level. We have a strong offer at KS4, running GCSE Statistics alongside as an option subject, and at A Level we have high uptake, with three A level groups, a Core Maths cohort and a Further Maths group. Therefore, some experience of teaching at KS5 would be beneficial although not essential. A real interest in developing teaching and learning is also important.
