What skills and experience we're looking for

An exciting opportunity has arisen for the post of Teacher of Maths at Malet Lambert. We are looking for a highly-motivated, forward-thinking and passionate individual to facilitate and encourage learning which enables pupils to achieve high standards to share and support the corporate responsibility for the well-being, education and discipline of all pupils.

What the school offers its staff

Malet Lambert is one of the top performing schools in Hull, where our commitment to pastoral care underpins the high expectations that we have of both pupils and staff. We have a long and proud history, dating back to 1932.

As a school, we are dedicated to providing a great teacher in every classroom and are committed to high-quality, collective teacher development. This helps us to reduce the replication of effort and helps all teachers to thrive in our setting. This comes in a variety of forms: professional subject-specific development delivered in department time; INSET days as well as through CPD opportunities across The Education Alliance.

In keeping with the ethos of our wider trust, we are here to make great schools and happier, stronger communities so that people have better lives. For too long in many schools, staff have been asked to choose between being seen as good at their job and being a good mum, dad, partner, son, daughter or friend. We are doing everything we can to support our staff to balance the demands of their jobs and those at home.

To support this, we:

- Trust our staff to plan, prepare and assess at the best time for them, allowing them to go off-site in their PPA

- Have centralised our Behaviour Policy so teachers are freed up from supervising detentions

- Demand ethical leadership built on professional trust

- Reject fads and ensure our CPD is evidence-informed and predominantly subject specific

- Have reduced data collections to twice yearly

- Do not expect staff to respond to emails outside normal working hours

- Do not deploy staff at other Trust schools unless it is at their request

We have removed the following:

- Performance management objectives and performance-related pay

- Lesson observations and high stakes, toxic accountability

- Onerous marking policies

- Requirements for daily or weekly lesson plans

Above all, we recognise that seeking to remove the number of tasks staff undertake will have little effect on improving work/home balance if this happens within a toxic culture. To support this, we offer training for our leaders to ensure they are able to translate our values into behaviours which are built on the principles of dignity, respect, professionalism and integrity.

What can we offer you?

  • Ethical leadership, professional trust and autonomy
  • Free parking and good transport links
  • Family friendly policies
  • Opportunities for flexible working, with a trust commitment to continually improve the work-life balance for our staff
  • Automatic membership of the Teachers’ Pension Scheme
  • Recognition of continuous service if you join us from another school, academy or local government employer
  • Salary Finance scheme which offers affordable loans and savings account, as well as tools for budgeting and saving
  • An induction programme and continued investment in training and development, with access to coaching and mentoring, career and professional development
  • Cycle to work scheme offering savings of up to 32% on a bike and accessories
  • Refund of the cost of an Annual NHS Prescription Prepayment Certificate
  • Free Flu vaccinations held on site each year
  • Education Workers Scheme from Barratt/David Wilson homes where education workers are entitled to receive a deposit contribution of £750 for every £25,000 spent, up to a maximum contribution of £15,000. So, for example a home costing £200,000 would qualify for a contribution of £6,000
  • Access to TeacherPerks.co.uk – discounts from a wide range of organisations available to all our staff
  • Employee Assistance Scheme available 24/7 via telephone or on-line portal, providing advice on assistance on a wide range of practical issues ranging from legal information and consumer issues to specialist counselling
  • In school individual support from Mind as part of the school’s Whole School Approach to Mental Health and Well Being
  • Annual staff survey and opportunities to engage in focus groups which gives you the opportunity to shape the future of the school and the trust
  • Opportunities to engage with extra-curricular activities
  • Hot and cold snacks and meals available from our canteens and complimentary lunches on training days
