Teacher of Maths job summary

St George Catholic College is an oversubscribed school, with a proven track record of continued success. It is currently ranked in the top 5% of schools nationally for progress. The college is rated by Ofsted as ‘Good’ (2021) with the potential to be graded outstanding in its next inspection. It has been graded ‘Outstanding’ across all areas for the last four Local Authority inspections. It is a college in which we have a commitment to knowing every student and ensuring they fulfil their potential. Due to the continuing success of the College, we have a vacancy for a Teacher of Mathematics for September 2022. In our 2021 OFSTED report it stated that “This is a very friendly school and pupils enjoy coming in each day”. Pupils’ kindness towards each other is underpinned by the school’s Catholic ethos and their ‘ASPIRE’ values of respect and positive relationships. Pupils and teachers often talk about the school as being ‘like one big family.’ They celebrate the range of different cultures and backgrounds that make up their school community.

The Mathematics department is a highly successful department who play a key role in the college’s achievement. The forward thinking department are a cohesive unit who demand the best from each other and from their students. We are fully staffed and are looking to expand the team. The right candidate would benefit from entering a supportive environment with a blend of skills, innovation and experience. We promote a positive Catholic ethos but there is no requirement to be Catholic to apply. The department’s track record in developing staff and achieving outcomes is second to none. We wish to appoint an outstanding practitioner who can offer vision, energy and creativity in the teaching of mathematics. We would welcome ECTs, as well as more experienced teachers to apply.

The Mathematics department consists of 7 full time specialists, teaching assistant and its own dedicated block. In 2021 85% of students achieved a Grade 4 (Standard pass) and above, 64% achieved a Grade 5 (Strong Pass) and above, and 30% achieved a Grade 7 and above, which is significantly above the national average.
