THE FULHAM BOYS SCHOOL

The Fulham Boys School is an 11-18 school for boys. Founded by local parents and teachers, it opened with its first Year 7 boys in September 2014 and now has almost 700 boys including more than 100 in the Sixth Form.

We have made an ambitious pledge to be one of the very best school in this country – state or private – within the next ten years.

The Fulham Boys School is and independent government funded school. We are a free school and fully embrace this freedom and independence to achieve our ambitious aim of becoming one of the best schools in this country with an academic curriculum that will equip FBS boys to apply for Oxbridge and Russell Group universities.

To this end we have created and constantly reinforce a very distinctive ethos. It is an ethos that is built upon the Christian faith, nurtures enterprise and is geared towards boys.

Due to rapid expansion we are now seeking a number of teaching vacancies throughout the school.

Boys

We constantly remind our boys about the importance of standards. Standards, standards, standards! Knowing how to behave appropriately in different settings – assembly, lessons, on the sports field, to and from school, in the dining room, in the library, walking through corridors, relaxing or letting off steam at break and lunch. Ensuring their uniform is immaculate and enforcing strict rules about hair.

The school has a complete cross section of boys. The school attracts a significant number of boys from the private sector but as a non-fee-paying school, we are able to draw in a far more diverse demographic than private schools. When it comes to preparing boys for life, this gives FBS boys a huge advantage. Fulham has a vibrant mix of cultures and some of the most expensive housing in London alongside pockets of significant deprivation. Our boys learn valuable lessons from mixing with each other, crossing socio-economic divides, and learning from each other’s perspectives rather than falling back on ‘group think’. No boy is allowed to use his upbringing or background as an excuse for not meeting our high standards, or as a barrier to achievement.

Our teaching strategies are geared towards boys and aimed at raising achievement for boys.

Our curriculum is academic that will equip FBS boys to apply for Oxbridge and Russell Group universities.

Sport is central to school life.

Enterprise

Enterprising is what we are not what we do.

We are committed to developing entrepreneurial flair, skills and habits in FBS boys, to serve the community as well as their later economic well-being.

We provide a wide range of co-curricular and vocational activities, this is provided through an extended school day with school running from 8.30-5pm Mon-Thurs and 8.30-3pm on Friday.

We place huge emphasis on character and instil in our boys the importance of being risk takers, game changers, resilient, problem solvers, team players, calm under pressure and possessing a can do, never lie down, never know when you’re beaten attitude.

Social enterprise is also important; we expect our boys to give back to society and want the school to be at the heart of the community.

Christian Faith

Not all our teachers are Christians (about a third) and neither are our boys. We have boys from other faiths and no faith. But as a school built upon the Christian faith:

1) Everyone will learn about Christian values, as described in the Bible and demonstrated perfectly by Jesus Christ. We will try to follow them as a community in everything we do.

2) Everyone will have regularly and varied opportunities to learn about the main beliefs of Christianity and the claims of Jesus Christ.

3) Everyone will have the opportunity and will be encouraged to think and ask questions about these beliefs and claims. Everyone will be able to give their own view in response, whatever that may be.

4) The Christian ethos will have an impact on every area of school life, be that assemblies, form times, lessons, break and lunchtimes, sports afternoons or any other time. It will have an impact on learning, behaviour, pastoral care and pupil and staff welfare. Three vital ingredients make up the school’s ethos: Boys, Faith and Enterprise. We aim to build a school that is geared towards Boys, built upon Christian principles and which nurtures Enterprise.

As a free school we aim to constantly push the boundaries and offer the very best experience to all our boys and staff. Our extended school day means that staff and students benefit from 18 extra days holiday. Along with other staff perks, we also have an innovative approach to pay; whilst we adopt the national teacher pay scales we also have a performance related bonus scheme to recognise the hard work and dedication of our staff.

Further information and application forms are available on our school website www.fulhamboysschool.org

If you would like a confidential discussion with our Headmaster or to arrange a visit to the school please call the school on 0207 381 7100.

Application forms should be sent to Jane Proudfoot, HR Manager at The Fulham Boys School, 532 Fulham Road, London SW6 5BD or by email to recruit@fulhamboysschool.org.uk
