Teacher of Maths job summary

About the role: The Leigh Academy remains to be one of the highest achieving state comprehensive schools in England and one of the most over-subscribed schools in Kent. We have a fantastic opportunity to appoint a Teacher of Maths to join us from September 2020 and be part of a team that is truly changing lives and positively transforming the local community. Our successful candidate will quickly become an integral part of our department who have achieved great successes in recent years. Whether you are an NQT or a more experienced teacher, we can offer a professional development package designed around you within the academy and across the wider Trust.

Working for The Leigh Academy: The Leigh Academy is a 'Good' secondary school at the heart of the community and our small school model ensures that each and every student gets the personal support and challenge they need to reach their full potential. The Academy is divided into four Colleges: Brunel, Chaucer, Darwin and Da Vinci - each has their own personality and range of specialisms, allowing them to be unique.

Overall, the academy is a dynamic and exciting place to work and the fantastic Leadership Team are committed to making it a great place to work for staff at all stages in their careers. Our award winning building and facilities are modern, light and airy and the open learning plazas and classrooms built around a day-lit wintergarden give the academy a unique and special character. It is also an academy that is conscious of its environment as it is brimming with sustainable innovations such as passive cooling, earth tubes and passive ventilation.

We can offer you the chance to be part of a strong and collaborative department not only within The Leigh Academy, but within the wider Trust as well. Full support will be provided and you'll have the tools and environment needed to teach in a way that works for you. We know that being a teacher can be both challenging and rewarding in equal measures and that you thrive on inspiring young adults and stimulating their curiosity. At The Leigh Academy we aim to give our teachers the freedom to innovate and inspire our students as we know this is a crucial ingredient to driving great learning outcomes.

Being part of Leigh Academies Trust: As of January 2020, our Trust is comprised of 25 geographically organised academies (11 secondaries, 13 primaries and 1 special) educating over 15,000 students, and employing over 2,500 talented staff. We also have three further academies in development phase, due to open between September 2020-21. The Trust is establishing four ‘clusters’ of academies: North West Kent; Central Kent; South East London; Medway. In addition, the Trust is responsible for one of the region’s biggest initial teaching training providers and a large teaching school.

As part of Leigh Academies Trust, you will have ample opportunity to collaborate with your peers both within the academy and across the whole Trust. This is an important part of our vision as we know through experience that we perform better when we work together. You are supported to undertake regular self-development to continue your professional development and hopefully progress further within the organisation.

We strive to offer a range of benefits that all employees can take advantage of which we regularly review and add to - click here to view what you’d receive as a member of staff with Leigh Academies Trust.

Diversity at our core: As a Trust we are passionate about diversity and recognise that as individuals we all bring something unique to the role regardless of age, gender, race, beliefs or disabilities which is why we treat all of our people equally, without compromise.

The academy is committed to safeguarding children and successful candidates will be subject to an Enhanced DBS check. Our commitment to safeguarding is underpinned by robust processes and checks which are in place across the Trust.

Recruitment and hiring during COVID-19: Despite the challenges we face, recruitment and hiring will continue for all Leigh Academies Trust vacancies with as little disruption as possible over the coming weeks and months. This is for all senior, teaching and support staff appointments. Applications will still be reviewed and interviews conducted in a timely manner, although interview activities will vary.
