What skills and experience we're looking for

The Governors wish to appoint a well-qualified, innovative Teacher of Modern Foreign Language, preferably French with a second language of either Spanish or German. The post is part time 0.6 (three days) and full time may be considered by discussion with the Headteacher.

The Languages Faculty team currently consists of two full time and four part time staff. It is led by a Faculty Leader supported by Curriculum Leaders for each subject. We subscribe to digital teaching resources to which both teachers and students have access, supported by a wide range of textbooks and in-house resources. The faculty work collaboratively to design the curriculum and assessments, and readily share resources.

The faculty is very successful at both Key Stages and produces some of the best progress scores for the school at GCSE in French, German and Spanish. Extra-curricular opportunities are also plentiful, with events such as Bake Off and the Spelling Bee taking place annually, and we have recently re-started visits abroad with a successful trip to Madrid. Professional development is highly valued, and the faculty lead teach-meets with local primary and secondary schools to share good practice.

Students in Year 7 are assigned French, German or Spanish, and they continue with this language all the way through to GCSE, ensuring that they make excellent progress throughout their time at The Earls. At Key Stage 4 around 55% of students opt for languages and as a faculty and school we are committed to increasing this.

What the school offers its staff

As a school we are extremely proud of our badge, you will see it everywhere around the school. We are proud because it sums everything that we believe in. The motto on the badge says ‘Ut Fili Lucis Fiatis’ and it means ‘to become children of the light’, and that is the reason we exist as a school. We believe that every young person who walks through our doors has enormous potential. Our staff work hard to help students to reach their best and become enlightened, or as our motto says, become children of the light.

Commitment to safeguarding

The Earls High School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. This post is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.
