Teacher of Modern Foreign Languages job summary
We seek to appoint a Teacher of Modern Foreign Languages on a 1 FTE basis to join our team at George Pindar School.
George Pindar School is an 11-16 secondary situated in Scarborough. We are a community school where our colleagues are #proudtobepindar and we are looking positively to the future as we continue our journey to Good. We are seeking to appoint a passionate teacher of MFL on a full-time permanent basis at an exciting time for our languages department with the number of students choosing a language for GCSE predicted to be the highest in three years next year
MFL is a small department and is well-supported by SLT (especially the Principal who is an MFL specialist). Languages are championed in our school and we take every opportunity to celebrate the languages and cultures of the world through our after-school Culture Club and work with outside agencies such as GCHQ. We are also excited to be running two international trips next year! The successful candidate will be able to teach French to KS4 and the ability to teach German would be a bonus as we offer German in Y9-11.
The school is very open to new initiatives and ideas and innovation is at the heart of our development; we have a fully-resourced KS3 curriculum which we are tweaking in line with the new specification. We aim to stay up to date with changing trends in languages and are always open to new ideas. We deliver engaging lessons with a focus on broadening the horizons of our students and increasing their cultural capital. Assessments are centrally planned and organised with teacher workload in mind.
We are proud to be an inclusive school and we are oversubscribed in Year 7 and 8. We have the highest aspirations for our students to strive for success, achieve their very best and grow both as individuals and as members of their community. The development of the whole child forms an integral part of our vision; we want the best for every student at George Pindar irrespective of their background. We work together as #TeamPindar to develop our PINDAR values and are well supported by colleagues across the Hope Sentamu Learning Trust to improve in all aspects of our school.
At George Pindar School, staff benefit from a wide range of professional development opportunities which are specific to the subject area or to wider school improvement and career enhancement, including network groups supported by Hope Sentamu Learning Trust colleagues. There are opportunities to contribute to the wider school community through work as a form tutor and through whole-school initiatives.
The main focus of the Subject Teacher's role is fostering the learning and progress of the pupils in their care. This involves being an effective teacher of pupils as well as of the subject. Quality of preparation, resourcing, planning, subject expertise, teaching skill, pace, challenge, proactive classroom management, effective marking and assessment, high expectations, and positive personal relationships are all central to providing the conditions within which pupils' personal skills, abilities, understanding, learning and progress can be developed.
