What skills and experience we're looking for
The successful candidate will possess a clear vision of the role of Modern Foreign Languages within the wider curriculum and how this can be developed in the light of changes to the education and employment landscape. They will have a passion for languages and desire to inspire young people to continue and develop their learning to GCSE and beyond. They will demonstrate excellent knowledge of current trends in foreign language pedagogy and be prepared to explore and contribute to adventurous, innovative approaches to classroom teaching, including via language learning technology.

- Over 110 colleagues at all levels have completed a two-day training programme with MHFA England to be certificated as Mental Health First Aiders
- We have an extensive and highly effective student support team
- A dedicated team of Health Champions focussing on strategies to promote positive staff wellbeing
- Fully paid wellbeing time built into the school calendar each half term

- The school subscribes to Education Support’s Employee Assistance Programme providing all colleagues with access to:-
o A range of clinically robust counselling options,
o Financial, legal and practical support from qualified professionals on a range of personal issues

o A dedicated coaching service for line managers, aimed at developing soft skills and building confidence for handling challenging situations.
Further details about the role
Students at Wadebridge study either French or Spanish at Key Stage 3. There is a consistent uptake of either one or two groups in both French and Spanish at GCSE and both the department and the school are looking to increase interest and numbers opting for MFL going forward. A bespoke curriculum is followed at Key Stage 3, resourced as appropriate from the Pearson Viva and Dynamo courses. For GCSE, the Edexcel exam is used, with the curriculum based on Studio and Viva GCSE.
The department consists of three teachers with the additional advantage of foreign language assistants for both French and Spanish, who are deployed each year by the school. These assistants work with small groups of students both inside and outside the classroom in addition to running cultural language clubs and helping with after school GCSE support.
Wadebridge School has 1067 students and provides education for students from 11 to 16. We were successfully inspected by Ofsted on 10th & 11th December 2019 and remain a good school in all areas – the full report is available to view on our school website www.wadebridge.cornwall.sch.uk
