Every Manor teacher engages in research-led staff development to collaboratively improve practice, and within Music, our culture of sharing ideas and strategies leads to innovative and dynamic teaching across the year groups. Our online resources are used in many other schools and we frequently support colleagues in other settings.

In key stage 3 Music, all students continue their musical learning from key stage 2. In year 7 they explore: The Voice, Elements, Music Production, Notate, Piano Performance and Improvisation. In year 8: Communication via African drumming, Performance via Technology, Traditions and Tonalities, Melody in Context, Great Works Great People and Video Game Music. Our year 9 curriculum equips students to confidently write their own original music and with the skills to perform it with control. They study 900 years of music to support their understanding of the purpose of music across a very wide range of styles. In years 10 and 11 students can study AQA GCSE Music. All students learn how to use GarageBand, Logic Pro and Sibelius music software and all have the opportunity to have specialist instrumental or voice tuition. Our collaborative productions with Drama and Dance include our specialist student tech team. Our co-curricular programme is constantly evolving, but currently includes: The Manor Concert Orchestra, Leaders Orchestra, Voices Choir, Everybody Choir, Worship Band, Mastersounds Jazz Band and Rockgod Academy.

As a team we are looking to continually deepen our understanding of successful approaches to teaching and to improve our delivery of content through sharing best practice. Our curriculum is carefully structured and well-resourced, seeking to foster a love of the subject in all learners.

This new role of Teacher of Music is an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate and energised to foster the learning and progress of all the pupils in their care. This involves being an effective teacher and a musical role model and ensemble leader, inspiring the young people they will work with, to develop an ethos that will enable them to thrive. Quality of preparation, resourcing, planning, subject expertise, teaching skill, pace, challenge, proactive classroom management, effective marking and assessment, high expectations, and positive personal relationships are all central to providing the conditions within which pupils' personal skills, abilities, understanding, learning and progress can be developed.

For any informal queries, please contact the Principal's PA via email at s.metcalfe@mce.hlt.academy who can direct you to the most appropriate colleague.
