Teacher of Music job summary
We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, highly motivated and inspirational teacher of Music.
The Performing Arts department is led by a music specialist and is thriving, with a reputation for excellent teaching and learning. All students study music at Key Stage 3 and an increasing number of students have been choosing to continue their studies at Key Stage 4 where students achieve excellent results in BTEC Level 2 in Music. We are also expecting to introduce music at post 16 in September.
The department has a range of resources including an IT suite with Mixcraft and Sibelius, a studio with Ableton Live, 2 class sets of keyboards, a range of guitars, drum kits, ukulele and Djembe’s.
We have a growing team of visiting peripatetic staff offering a range of instrument tuition, who actively support and liaise with the department in supporting the curriculum. We offer a number of enrichment opportunities, including annual productions, a choir and numerous bands. Students are frequently involved in local events within the community and are showcased in county based music ventures on a regular basis.
This is an exciting opportunity to join our newly appointed Headteacher to work alongside a highly supportive governing body, and an incredible group of staff who will always go the extra mile for our students.
Commitment to safeguarding
Churchill Community College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and we expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Churchill Community College is a dynamic, exciting place to work with many opportunities available for staff and students. We have been designated a National Teaching and Support School by the DfE and we also lead the ‘The Great North Maths Hub’ for the North of England alongside the North Tyneside Learning Trust. Our work as a teaching school has developed rapidly this year and we have recently been awarded a bid of over £400,000 to support the development of oracy skills in schools north of the Tyne. We have provided a very significant level of support at leadership team level and in teaching and learning to another local secondary school at the request of the local authority. We are one of two lead schools for the Northumbria University PE SCITT and work closely on ITT provision with Durham University, Sunderland and Newcastle too; as well as supporting Schools Direct provision. This work is all evidence of our continuing commitment to high quality professional development for those who work in education.
Our most recent OfSTED Inspection in March 2019 graded us as Good across all areas. We are very proud of the outcome of the report because it reflects the years of hard work and commitment by our staff to build the quality of provision it evidences.
