What skills and experience we're looking for
The Thomas Hardye School is seeking an enthusiastic teacher to join our outstanding music department. Our music department has a reputation for excellence, and this is an exceptional opportunity for an early-career teacher to join our experienced team. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning and delivering high-quality music lessons for key stages 3-5, achieving excellent results, and inspiring students to develop a passion for the subject.
As a
committed team player, the successful candidate will have the drive and energy
to thrive in our outstanding school. The
music department runs both GCSE and A Level Music, as well as Music Technology
A Level. We have a team of around 20 visiting music teachers who deliver
approximately 250 instrumental and vocal lessons each week. Additionally, there are thirteen
co-curricular music ensembles, including choirs, orchestra, concert band and
rock bands, which perform regularly throughout the year. We are looking for someone who is eager to take
an active part in the delivery of these opportunities.
What the school offers its staff
Our music department works closely with the middle schools in the Dorchester pyramid, as well as with schools across the entire Wessex MAT. Therefore, there are numerous opportunities throughout the year to work collaboratively with these other schools and to make a significant impact on the musical education of children in the area.
We are a popular and oversubscribed school, with 2100 students on role aged 13-18, including 700 in the sixth form, set in one of the most beautiful areas of the country. We can offer excellent resources and working conditions, a supportive environment, and ample opportunities for further professional development at one of the most successful comprehensive schools in the country. Our superb music facilities include two music ICT suites, numerous practice rooms, a dedicated recording studio and a newly renovated theatre. In addition, there is an on-site nursery and sports complex. More information about the music department can be found under the Curriculum area of the school website.
Further details about the role
