About the post:

This position is an excellent opportunity for an outstanding and inspirational teacher to work closely with the Head of Music. The post will involve teaching from Key Stage 3 to Key Stage 5 Music depending upon skills and experience.

This post would ideally suit a colleague who wishes to work with highly motivated, extremely engaged, enthusiastic and able learners. If you are keen to develop further as a practitioner and wish to extend your repertoire of teaching and learning strategies, then this would be a perfect fit for you. The team:

The Music Department has developed a strong reputation for excellent teaching and learning which has resulted in excellent results, and a significant number of students studying Music who subsequently go on to study music at leading universities. The Music Department has developed a curriculum which is innovative and focused on developing students’ lifelong love of learning, as well as achieving outstanding examination success.

The Music team is constantly seeking ways to improve and engages with educational research to develop the curriculum to equip our students with the substantive, disciplinary and procedural knowledge and opportunities for success to allow them to take the next step with confidence.

The Music Department operates across both Tonbridge and Sevenoaks campuses. Much development has gone into enhancing the facilities, with keyboards, computers and recording facilities available at both campuses and excellent access to online resources.

We have an outstanding extra-curricular provision which has resulted in recent performances at Cadogan Hall, the Chapel of St. Augustine and the E.M. Forster Theatre. The department regularly visits concert halls in London, particularly the Royal Festival Hall, as well as organising trips to musicals throughout the academic year. We also have a thriving band program which has resulted in success at Battle of the Bands competitions.

Teamwork is vital to the success of a department over two campuses. It is therefore essential for the successful candidate to be able to galvanise the team, and use the benefits and challenges presented by this to drive teaching and learning forward to meet the needs of our students thus ensuring consistency in standards.

Students are taught one, hour long lesson per week at Key Stage 3. Students follow the Eduqas GCSE and A-Level specification throughout. In Years 10 and 11, students have a total of five, hour long lessons per fortnight. At A Level our students receive ten, hour long lessons a fortnight split between two teachers.

Weald of Kent is a selective Girls’ Grammar School for 11-18 year olds with a roll of approximately 2000 students including our co-educational Sixth Form.
