Teacher of PE – Temporary - Part Time (0.6 FTE) job summary
The Role
We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, innovative and committed Teacher of PE. You should be able to motivate and inspire students through outstanding practice in your teaching. This will involve 100% commitment to our vision which is captured in our strapline “High Expectations | Exceptional Individuals”. PE is a supportive and enthusiastic department at Corfe Hills School; students and teachers love learning, and our excellent outcomes (particularly in GCSE PE) reflect this.
This role is temporary to cover the permanent post-holder during a planned operation and recovery period. It is expected to last between 6 to 8 weeks and is for 3 full days a week. Mainly teaching GCSE Year 10 and 11 and OCR Technical Year 12 and 13.
The Curriculum
In Year 9, students have 3 hours per fortnight of practical PE.
In Years 10 and 11, they have 1 hour per week of Core PE. In addition, we also offer GCSE PE and OCR Technical Sport, which each have 5 periods of teaching per fortnight.
Our A Level courses include both A-level PE and OCR Technical Sport Level 3 and are scheduled for 9 hours per fortnight.
Our Facilities
The school has a large sports hall, multi-gym equipment and another indoor space. There are four full-size grass pitches for winter sports and this is marked out with a 400 m grass running track in the summer.
Living Here
Corfe Hills School in a fabulous location within easy reach of Bournemouth and its beaches, Poole and its harbour, the Jurassic Coast and the Dorset countryside. The school serves the catchment area of Broadstone, Corfe Mullen and the wider area and we truly believe that all of our students are exceptional. The school was most recently graded as “requires improvement” and has made significant changes to ensure that all students reach their potential. The recently formed leadership team and wider staff body are all extremely passionate about ensuring that all students “learn to the max” every lesson. The school has embraced this period of change and welcomed the challenge that OFSTED set us.
Our 2018 results demonstrate the impact of these changes with rapid improvement in attainment and progress. 83% of students achieved grades 4 to 9 in English and 80% grades 4 to 9 in Mathematics. The number of students with both English and Mathematics at grades 5 to 9 has risen a massive 12% between 2017 and 2018 to 49%. In addition, GCSE PE was the second best GCSE course in the school in terms of subject progress.
