Teacher of PE job summary

Teacher of PE

Physical Education is central to our curriculum here at The Oxford Academy. This is a school with great students and ambitious, talented staff, who aim to develop students who have the belief in themselves that anything is possible.

Do you want to work in a school that:

  • Is friendly and community centred, where staff genuinely feel part of a team. 'The school is mindful of staff workload and well-being. It provides high-quality training and support. Staff recognise this and they feel valued and respected' (Ofsted 2023).
  • Has a well resourced school with excellent facilities including: one all weather floodlit astroturf, a specialised Dome with a 3G surface, modern sports hall with extensive markings of a wide variety of sports, outdoor basketball courts, a dance studio, extensive fields, a fitness suite and access to an off-site swimming pool.
  • Places staff well-being at the heart of everything we do.
  • Has a full time Instructional Coach who works with staff to develop their practice through selecting specific teaching goals that maximise student learning.
  • Has an ‘aspirational and appropriate curriculum for all’ (Ofsted 2023).
  • Has students who behave well in lessons (Ofsted 2023) so teachers can teach and students can learn.
  • Prioritises high quality bespoke CPLD as well as opportunities for collaboration and support across a successful and highly respected multi academy trust.

We value the role that PE plays in our young people’s education. We are looking for an inspiring individual to join our school community, work with the team to develop the department and contribute to the life chances of the young people in our school community. PE is a very popular subject at all Key Stages and is taught as a discrete subject from year 7. We also have strong links with other PE departments in other schools within our Trust. The school offers a varied program of extra-curricular activities such as badminton, football, basketball, netball, gym club, rounders, trampolining, boxing, and softball. The successful candidate will join a dedicated team and play a significant role in growing PE at both Key Stage 4 and into Key Stage 5. You will need to be able to teach PE to GCSE or Btec.

This is a very exciting time to join our school. We are looking for an enthusiastic professional with the expertise and dedication to live out our values of ‘commitment to others, commitment to learning’. These commitments are central to our school, demonstrated by the strong, warm relationships, and a strong culture of learning for both students and staff. This role will allow you genuine scope to be part of something ambitious and improve the opportunities and outcomes of students in our school community so as to ensure they have the best possible chance to flourish and succeed. At the Oxford Academy, we work to meet the needs of all - whatever it takes.

We encourage interested candidates to visit the school before application. To arrange a visit please contact Reception (enquires@theoxfordacademy.org)

For more information about The Oxford Academy please visit the school's website.

Recruitment for this position is on-going and successful candidates will be invited to interview as applications are received.
