Teacher of PE job summary
Thurstable School seeks to appoint a Teacher of PE to join our highly successful PE Faculty from September 2019. The ability to offer a wide range of activities including games, trampolining, dance and athletics would be an advantage across Key Stages 3 to 5.
Our extensive Sports Centre offers exceptional facilities for teaching PE, including two sports halls (one with a climbing wall), a fitness centre, a dance studio, two squash courts, a newly resurfaced full sized 3G artificial football pitch, and extensive playing fields. We offer a rich and diverse PE curriculum programme developed and delivered by a talented and committed team of professionals. Teachers are well supported by a PE technician, and a sports intern. The Thurstable PE Faculty combines an inclusive approach to sport, offering the widest possible range of sports to maximise engagement and participation, together with an appreciation and fostering of excellence that leads to individual and team sporting sucees (and a well-stocked trophy cabinet). Thurstable hosts the Colchester United 11-16 Centre of Excellence, offers Advanced Football Training Programmes for girls and boys in the sixth form in partnership with the club, and teaches the theory strand of the apprenticeship programme commissioned by League Football Education.
The successful applicant will be passionate about sport and PE, and about learning, and be committed to achieving excellence in their chosen profession. They will join an exceptionally positive and forward thinking Faculty that is committed to collegiate working.
Thurstable is an oversubscribed and highly successful 11-18 school. We offer staff an open and supportive environment, characterised by trust and by honest professional challenge, which is perhaps why Ofsted commented in 2016 that “the vast majority of staff are incredibly positive and proud to be working at Thurstable School”.
We see our staff as our most important asset, and offer exceptional professional development and training opportunities, teaching across the age and ability range up to A level. We welcome informal visits from potential applicants.
