What skills and experience we're looking for

A fantastic opportunity has arisen within The Castle School, Taunton, for an ambitious and inspirational part-time Teacher of Performing Arts (0.4 FTE) covering maternity leave who is passionate about providing high quality teaching and learning and has a natural flair for delivering creative and dynamic lessons to join our school from September 2025. A November start would be considered for the right candidate.

In KS3 all students have one hour of Performing Arts a week. In years 7 and 8, students have one teacher for the whole year, covering both Dance and Drama. In year 9 students carousel between Drama and Dance with a specialist teacher for both. We are seeking to appoint either a Dance or Drama specialist who has a willingness to teach in both areas at KS3.

At The Castle School you will be joining an enthusiastic and hard-working team that includes Art, Drama, Dance, and Music. All students follow a varied Arts curriculum with specialist teachers through KS3, and benefit from a fantastic range of extra-curricular opportunities including clubs and groups, music tuition, concerts, plays and musicals including a major school production, a Dance showcase, Variety Show, Community Concert and Art, Photography and Textiles exhibitions. We offer five Arts GCSE courses and two BTEC Courses and uptake at KS4 is excellent.

The Arts are valued here for the huge contribution they make to the life of the school and to the learning and wellbeing of our students. The Performing Arts department currently has three part time teachers.
