Teacher of Performing Arts (Dance and Drama) job summary
We are looking for an imaginative and skilled Teacher of Performing Arts (Dance and Drama) who is committed to our vision and virtues and driven by the desire to improve the life chances of young people.
This is a great opportunity to be involved in an innovative and highly successful faculty. Outcomes across the department are consistently above national average.
At Ratton School we have a proud history of success in the Performing Arts and as a former Performing Arts specialist school we are the one of the only local schools who currently offer both Drama and Dance as standalone subjects at KS3 and GCSE level. Each subject within the faculty has its own dedicated curriculum time. The Performing Arts facilities at Ratton are fantastic with sperate specialist Drama and Dance studios. Both facilities offer a high level of technology, including lighting rigs, specialised sound, sprung floors, mirrors and sperate changing facilities. We offer an extensive extra-curricular programme. This currently includes many KS3/KS4 clubs: Irish Dancing, Contemporary Dance, Hip Hop, workshops, studio 216 productions, circus skills and annual whole school productions. We offer our pupils the experience of performing in a professional theatre-based production and are currently working on producing Bugsy Malone, to be performed at the Hippodrome Theatre in Eastbourne.
You will be joining an ambitious and highly supportive organisation which offers:
• An excellent induction programme for teachers joining the school.
• A strong commitment to professional development which will improve your leadership skills, develop your understanding of whole school issues and prepare you for the next stage in your career.
• Motivated, enthusiastic and well-behaved learners who respond very well to active and engaging teaching and work well independently.
• A strong team ethos across the department and whole school.
Commitment to safeguarding
The South Downs Learning Trust and all our academies take notice of and adhere to all the national and local policies and guidance in regard to Safeguarding Children and Young People. We are committed to ensuring the highest levels of safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and we expect all our staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All offers of employment are subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, references, an online search, and where applicable, a prohibition from teaching check.
