Teacher of Performing Arts (Maternity Cover) job summary

Ormiston Victory Academy is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and dedicated Teacher of Performing Arts (Maternity Cover). The successful applicant will be an outstanding professional who takes pride in their work and is determined to develop the teaching of drama so that students of all abilities enjoy their learning and are motivated to succeed.

This temporary position offers a fulfilling opportunity to be part of a successful, friendly and dedicated team committed to ensuring every student achieves their true potential.

The excellent performances at Victory have been met with critical acclaim over many years - we value this curriculum area highly and believe it is critical to ensuring our students are able to express themselves with confidence and presence. Amongst the alumni is Hollywood actor Sam Claflin who remains supportive of the Costessey community. Our annual performances include a major production (Grease 2019, Sister Act, 2018, School of Rock 2017, Billy Elliot 2016, Starlight Express 2015, Ghost 2014, Les Miserables 2013), collaborations with other Ormiston Academies and in 2019 we won the People’s Choice Award in the EDP Norfolk Arts Awards. We are currently working towards achieving Artsmark Platinum status and we work with Norfolk Festival Bridge as a lead CALSA school.

We believe in working hard to ensure our students enjoy their learning and this is reflected in the excellent enrichment opportunities available, which we expect the successful candidate to support and embrace. We value our staff and recognise their hard work to provide the best education for our learning community. Mary Poppins Jr is planned for performance in December 2021 and we hope the successful candidate will be part of the creative team.

We are looking for a talented teacher who:

• Has a real passion for Performing Arts and a special gift of communicating that passion.
• Is dynamic, innovative, self-motivated and able to inspire others.
• Has the ability to teach outstanding lessons across the age (11-18) and ability range.
• Is committed to raising standards of attainment and developing the success of the department.
• Enjoys working as part of a team and demonstrates reflective practice through the high expectations they have of themselves and the students.
• Has the ability to teach across the performing arts disciplines at KS3.

The academy incorporates the successful and growing Lord Nelson Sixth Form College. We are delighted to be part of the Ignite Teaching School Alliance and we have strong links with the University of East Anglia. We are proud to be sponsored by Ormiston Academies Trust and the successful candidate would benefit from the opportunities which arise as a result of this.

If you are interested in being at the leading edge of education, believe that all young people can achieve high standards; we want to hear from you.

This position would be suitable for either a newly qualified teacher or an experienced teacher. We offer an excellent induction package for all new staff, led by a member of the senior leadership team and supported by personal mentors.

Commitment to safeguarding

Ormiston Victory Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful applicant will be required to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service.
