Teacher of Philosophy, Religion and Ethics (PRE) job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to appoint an excellent teacher to join our Philosophy, Religion and Ethics (PRE) department from September 2025. The successful candidate will teach PRE in a dedicated subject classroom and will work alongside a supportive team of staff committed to providing a positive and inclusive learning environment. You will be able to teach PRE to students in all key stages and be actively involved in GCSE preparation. You will be responsible for planning and delivering creative, engaging lessons to ensure students achieve their best outcomes.

We welcome applications from ECTs or more experienced teachers wishing to broaden their experience.

Over the past five years, PRE has become one of the most successful and respected subjects in the school, studied by all students with a thriving KS4 cohort in both GCSE Short Course (studied by all students in Year 10) and GCSE Full Course Religious Studies (a very popular option subject). We expect that the successful candidate will be interested in contributing to our A-Level offer in either Religious Studies or Philosophy.

We are committed to developing excellence in teaching and learning, underpinned by research evidence and the principles of cognitive science. We believe in working collaboratively to develop a high-quality centralised curriculum to ensure all students have a consistently excellent learning experience and the best possible chance of success, as well as ensuring a manageable workload for staff. If you have the knowledge, skills and desire required to excel in this role, we would love to have you as part of our staff team.

Requirements for this PRE role:

  • Relevant experience teaching GCSE Religious Studies

  • A strong understanding of the secondary PRE curriculum from Key Stage 3-5

  • Ability to deliver engaging and effective lessons to support students’ learning

  • Strong classroom and behaviour management skills

  • Must have a DBS on the updated service

  • QTS status achieved or in progress

  • Enjoys collaborative working as a strong team member

Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver well-structured PRE lessons in line with the centralised curriculum and GCSE syllabus

  • Monitor student progress and provide constructive feedback

  • Adapt teaching strategies to meet diverse learning needs and abilities

  • Support students with exam preparation to achieve academic success

  • Foster a positive and motivating classroom environment
