What the school offers its staff

The Grey Coat Hospital, founded in 1698, is a Church of England school for girls aged eleven to eighteen with a mixed Sixth Form. The historic foundation of the school and its current ethos are rooted in a confident and generous Christian faith and practice, which welcomes students and staff of all backgrounds and beliefs.

Students have the opportunities to compete and excel in a variety of sport competitions including English/London Schools Athletics, Middlesex Cricket competitions, National Trampolining competitions and other local competitions including Netball and Basketball. The Grey Coat Hospital Football team is part of the Inter-school League where they achieve regular success. Three of our students were recently presented to the Queen at Buckingham Palace for their work in the 'Football Goals' women's empowerment initiative.

The school has many talented individual sportswomen who we support in their quest for representational honours. Our alumni include the international cricketer Ebony Jewel-Rainford MBE; GB Heptathlete Phyllis Agbo, and current students are representing GB teams in golfing and gymnastics

The Grey Coat Hospital, when last inspected, was judged to be ‘outstanding’ by OFSTED in October 2022. In 2020, the School achieved ‘excellent’ in the Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist Schools. We are proud of our ethos of continued self-improvement, which characterises every aspect of our culturally diverse school. The school is committed to building on our passion for excellent teaching and learning as well as continuing to place an emphasis on our language specialism and international ethos.

The school has an excellent programme of support for all new staff and is committed to professional development. We actively encourage teachers to explore innovative approaches to teaching and learning.
