Teacher of Physical Education and Head of Year job summary
Hagley Catholic High School is looking to recruit an ambitious and enthusiastic teacher of Physical Education and Head of Year.
This post is suitable for a more experienced teacher who is passionate about delivering the highest quality of Physical Education (PE). We are seeking to appoint a teacher who will support the ethos of the department and the wider school community. The successful candidate would be expected to contribute to the teaching and development of PE across the whole age and ability range, including examination groups at Key Stage 4 and/or 5. A commitment to support the extracurricular sport programme is also integral to the role.
The Physical Education department at the school is highly regarded and secures excellent progress and outcomes for students. There are currently 145 students studying GCSE PE at Key Stage 4, which is not surprising having achieved a FFT value added score of +0.78 in the last examined series (2019). Achievement in A-Level PE is also impressive. In 2019, 89% of students secured grades A*- C, with 22% achieving A*- A and a 100% pass rate. The Level 3 value added score for this A-Level PE cohort was +0.51.
The PE department has six specialist teachers, all of whom are required to teach a range of curriculum sports within the Games programme at Key Stages 3 and 4, and enrichment at Key Stage 5. GCSE and A-Level PE are delivered based upon subject specialisms. The staff within the department promote and deliver a high level of extracurricular provision. Students at the school compete at District, Regional and National levels of competition in a range of sporting activities.
This post also includes the opportunity to take on the position of Head of Year. Hagley has an excellent pastoral care programme and a wonderful Pastoral Leadership Team working towards the personal development of all Hagley students. Personal Development and Behaviour and Attitudes were noted as real strengths in out last Ofsted inspection (October 2019). Heads of Year take the lead on the personal growth of students in their year group driven by our Virtues and Values, and a firm belief that everyone of us can be better each day, and that there should be no barriers to our students being whatever they want to be.
The start date for the post is Easter 2021 or September 2021.
