Teacher of Psychology (0.8 FTE, Maternity Cover) job summary

Chiltern Hills Academy invites applications for the opportunity to join the staff of a successful, mixed 11–18 Church of England Academy. Based in the market town of Chesham, Buckinghamshire, we are located in the Chiltern Hills, an area of outstanding natural beauty conveniently situated at the end of the London Underground Metropolitan Line.

We seek to appoint, from January 2023, an enthusiastic, hardworking and conscientious individual to join the Psychology department. The ideal candidate will have a strong track record as a classroom practitioner, experience teaching KS5 AQA Psychology and be passionate about teaching and learning. You should possess highly developed interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence and have high expectations for student achievement.

This post requires a dynamic individual who can communicate their passion for Psychology through innovative and effective teaching methods, underpinned by up-to-date teaching and learning pedagogy and understanding. KS5 Psychology at Chiltern Hills Academy is a popular post-16 subject, and we want to continue to inspire students, develop their understanding, and support their learning and application beyond the curriculum whilst maintaining excellent progress.

We study AQA Psychology with all students being entered for the AS exam and then continuing to A2. Our electives in Year 2 are Gender, Schizophrenia and Forensics.

In your letter of application, please include your topic areas of strength from the AQA specification and if you would be happy to teach a second subject, such as Humanities and/or PRE.

Essential qualities:

  • An outstanding classroom practitioner who is passionate about teaching and learning
  • High expectations for student achievement
  • Experience teaching AQA A-level Psychology
  • A commitment to raising standards for all

Applications from ECTs, experienced teachers or those returning to the profession will be welcome.

We are committed to the development of our staff and supporting them to further their career, progress professionally and develop their teaching and leadership skills.

We have been graded ‘good’ following our latest SIAMS inspection (March 2020). “The academy is highly inclusive and tireless in supporting all of its pupils and staff. Because of this, each person is known, nurtured and inspired. This enables them to make strong progress from their starting points”. Our OFSTED inspection in February 2017 also judged the school as ‘good’ in all categories.

The school has undertaken a major refurbishment and expansion programme to add to our well-resourced teaching environment. The assembly hall now features tiered seating; we have added a purpose-built library, and the new buildings have better, state-of-the-art classrooms which have a modern and contemporary feel. In addition to this, we have an artificial grass pitch built in collaboration with the FA, which is used by students and the local community. We continue to develop and improve outstanding learning facilities for our students.

Applicants are encouraged to use the quick apply button to apply for the role or to contact Mrs Jo Mistry, HR Administrator, with any questions:jmistry@chacademy.co.uk.
