Teacher of Psychology job summary

Required for September 2021

Wootton Academy Trust [WAT] consists of Wootton Upper School, which has 900 pupils in Years 9-11 and Kimberley 16-19 College, which in September 2021 will have 700 students in Years 12 and 13 studying Level 3 courses.

WAT is a happy, successful Trust and we are seeking to appoint someone to join our team and make a positive impact on students’ lives. Staff here are supportive, caring and committed to a collaborative approach to teaching and learning. As a new member of staff, you can expect a warm welcome and a wide range of CPD opportunities to develop your practice and career.

We are seeking an inspirational teacher committed to high academic standards who can communicate to young people an enthusiasm for Psychology. This teacher of Psychology position is required due to the increasing popularity of Social Sciences courses at Kimberley College. Psychology is one of our most popular subjects and outcomes are exceptional. Kimberley opened in 2013 in a state-of-the-art building that provides excellent resources for both staff and students. Psychology [and Sociology] are not taught at Wootton Upper School so our team of Psychology and Sociology teachers are based solely at Kimberley College.

From September 2021 we are bringing together two successful subjects, Psychology and Sociology into one Social Sciences department to enable them to share great practice working together as a single team. As well as recruiting a Teacher of Psychology, we are recruiting a Head of Social Sciences for September 2021. Both individuals will teach Psychology to A level and be able to do so to a very high level. The position of Teacher of Psychology is suitable for a teacher looking for their first post or a teacher who already has taught in one or more settings who is now looking to teach in a specialist Sixth Form College. [Kimberley College is the largest A level provider in Bedfordshire].

The departmental information indicates that there will be eight A level classes in Psychology in the College next year, as well as five A level classes in Sociology. In September 2022 we expect the number of Psychology groups to increase to ten and the number of Sociology classes to six.

There will be the opportunity for the successful Teacher of Psychology applicant to teach some Sociology at A level should they have the ability to do so. We have listed this as desirable in the person specification, but first and foremost we want to appoint a really strong Teacher of Psychology.

We hope the attached Job Description, alongside the information on our website, inspires you to make an application and we look forward to welcoming successful applicants for interview.

Closing Date: 09:00 on Wednesday 3rd March 2021. Please note that we will be running this as a rolling recruitment and selection process during the recruitment campaign, therefore please submit your application as soon as possible.
