Teacher of Religious Studies job summary
We are seeking a highly motivated and engaging Religious Education teacher to join the RE Department and Humanities faculty. At KHS all students complete a GCSE in Religious Studies in year 10. We also run a popular A Level in Philosophy and Ethics. The Faculty comprises of Geography, History, Religious Studies and Sociology (with the former 3 integrated in year 7).
You would be joining a committed and passionate team of RE teachers who are very much at the heart of the school. Our current Head of RE has this mission statement for the department:
Religious Education should cut to the core of the human condition. What should you believe? What should you value? What is right and wrong? What is the meaning of life? Our students leave KHS having delved deep into the complexities of the most challenging questions on truth, meaning and value. Students learn about the great world religions and engage with non-religious worldviews such as Humanism and Atheism. Our students ask good questions, think for themselves and speak on complex and controversial issues from a position of understanding and respect. Free expression is fostered and defended through discussion and questioning. Integrity and humility are developed through introspection and challenge. Students leave KHS more confident with engaging in complex questions on morality and truth and with a breadth of understanding that prepares them for the diversity they will encounter as adults.
The vacancy is suitable for an ECT or someone looking to broaden their teaching experience. The ability to teach a small amount of Geography or History at Key Stage 3 only would be considered an advantage (but is not essential).
Commitment to safeguarding
Our organisation is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults. We expect all staff, volunteers and trustees to share this commitment.
Our recruitment process follows the keeping children safe in education guidance.
