Teacher of Religious Studies job summary
You will be joining a thriving Religious Studies Department working within a successful Humanities Faculty. The Religious Studies Department plays an important role in furthering the academic ethos of Southend High School for Girls and we are looking for somebody who will be able to inspire and engage our students to engage in rigorous and imaginative ways.
We offer Religious Studies at A Level and have multiple classes at GCSE. We are consistently one of the highest performing subjects within the school.
Results are testament to our diligent and hard-working students and staff and in 2025, 91% of grades achieved were A*-B at A Level.
Each year Religious Studies students go on to study Theology and Religion at university. In recent years the department has prepared students for courses at Oxford and King’s College London. We offer a variety of super curricular opportunities such as Subject Captains, theology based EPQs and whole school competitions.
Within the department, there will be significant scope for the successful candidate to develop Religious Studies at Southend High School for Girls to meet their own interests and areas of specialism.
The ability to teach Religious Studies at all key stages is essential.
The successful candidate should:

- Be a team player working closely with the Head of Department to develop the learning experiences for all our students.

- Contribute to secure the highest standards of pupil achievement, monitoring, tracking, supporting, and evaluating pupil achievement. Set targets for improvement and implement effective strategies for underperforming students.
