Qualifications and experience:

A graduate with qualified teacher status.

A strong teacher of Science- this post is also suitable for ECTs.

Relevant qualifications (both formal and through appropriate experience) to meet the challenge of the appointment.

Excellent in-depth knowledge of the place of the Science curriculum in the development of young people and of the place of within the wider curriculum.

An understanding of the importance of a rigorous reading strategy to ensure students’ confidence and reading fluency.

Job description

Introduction to the Department

This area of the curriculum is high profile with an excellent record of success both in examination courses and in the wider achievements of our students. We are seeking an enthusiastic teacher of Science who is committed to a practical approach to the teaching of Science across the Key Stages. The successful candidate must be able (or have the potential) to teach to GCSE and A level standard.

Science is extremely well taught across all Key Stages including sixth form education with students reaching high levels of achievement.

Duties of role will include:

To be able to secure high standards of learning and achievement across the full ability range at Key Stage 3, 4 and 5

To be able to demonstrate excellent subject knowledge

To be able to demonstrate a good working knowledge and understanding the curriculum and of a range of teaching, learning and assessment strategies and know how to use them to provide opportunities for all learners to achieve their potential

To have high expectations of young people

To be prepared to contribute to broad aspects of Science within the school.

To be able to work effectively as part of a team, to identify opportunities for sharing good practice

Plan and deliver high quality teaching and learning which:

Meets the needs of all learners, taking into account the individual requirements of each student.

Ensures effective and consistent implementation of the curriculum

Fulfils the demands of the relevant specifications, tutor guides and college ethos.

Makes a positive impact on student attainment and achievement.

Work with other staff in contributing to student learning including:

Supporting students outside their timetabled learning sessions through support clinics and tutorials.

Enhancing students’ experience of Science through involvement in enrichment activities.

Attend Science team meetings.

Working with other staff to enhance the curriculum, innovate new ideas to improve student outcomes and provide wider enriching experiences for students.

Assessment and Reporting:

Provide students with regular, incisive feedback in response to their written work, in line with college policies.

Ensure regular formative assessment takes place to address knowledge gaps.

Ensure that marking, recording and reporting are in line with school policies.

Be able to accurately assess each learning groups’ levels of attainment against student targets and national benchmarks.

Fulfil wider professional responsibilities including:

Set and maintain high standards, expectations and aspirations for both staff and students, ensuring they are treated with dignity and respect and that they receive appropriate guidance, support and recognition.

Maintain a safe and well-ordered learning environment, safeguarding students’ health and safety, managing behaviour effectively and rewarding success appropriately.

Actively seek opportunities for professional development to further enhance pedagogy and practice, and keep up to date with curriculum and qualification changes.

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic non-teacher to work across year 7.
