The Role:

We are seeking a dynamic and dedicated Teacher of Science to join our team on a full-time, permanent basis. You will deliver engaging Science lessons to students aged 11-18, fostering a love for the subject and encouraging academic excellence.

Main Purpose

The teacher will:

  • Fulfil the professional responsibilities of a teacher, as set out in the School Teachers’ Pay and Conditions Document
  • Meet the expectations set out in the Teachers’ Standards
  • To achieve success, the post holder will meet or exceed their appraisal targets

Duties and Responsibilities

Teaching & Learning

  • Teach, according to their educational need, students assigned to you in the allocated classes
  • Plan and prepare courses and lessons
  • Set and mark work carried out by the student in school and elsewhere
  • Assess, record and report on the development, progress and attainment of students
  • Promote the general progress and well-being of individual students and of any class or group of students assigned to you
  • Communicate and consult with parents/carers of students
  • Communicate and co-operate with external agencies
  • Provide or contribute to oral and written assessments, reports and references relating to individual students and groups of students
  • Participate in arrangements made for the appraisal or review of your performance
  • Review from time to time your methods of teaching and programmes of work
  • Participate in arrangements for your further training and professional development as a teacher and undertake training and professional development which aims to meet needs identified in planning and review statements
  • Maintain discipline and good order among students in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the school
  • Control and oversee the use of books and other resources provided for class usage
  • Maintain up-to-date subject knowledge
  • Participate and contribute to meetings at the school which relate to the curriculum for the school or the administration or organisation of the school, including pastoral arrangements
  • Register the attendance of students
  • Take part in the review, development and management of activities related to the curriculum, organisation and pastoral functions of the school
  • Deploy and supervise Teaching Assistants provided to support students in your allocated classes
  • Promote high standards of literacy, regardless of specialist subject
  • Cover for absent colleagues within the remit of the current STPCD

Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver high-quality Science lessons to students across key stages
  • Assess, monitor, record and report on the learning needs, progress and achievements of assigned pupils
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students
  • Implement engaging teaching strategies to foster a positive learning environment
  • Maintain a safe and orderly classroom
  • Participate in school meetings, parent meetings, and professional development activities

Person Specification:

Qualifications and Training:

  • Qualified teacher status
  • Degree in Science or related subject
  • Evidence of professional development relevant to this role

Experience:

  • Successful teaching experience in Science

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Strong knowledge of the Science curriculum and effective teaching strategies
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • Ability to build effective working relationships with pupils and staff
  • Good IT skills

Personal Qualities:

  • High expectations for all pupils and belief in bringing out the best in all
  • Commitment to upholding and promoting the ethos and values of the school
  • Ability to work under pressure and prioritise effectively
