St Birinus is a vibrant and very welcoming school, where we develop our boys into well rounded, successful young men who epitomise masculinity in a modern sense and who are supremely well prepared to contribute to society and thrive personally. Academic standards are prized as much as character, good manners, contribution and leadership.
As a school, we have exceptionally high standards for our students and present a wealth of opportunity for them in all areas of school life. We promote a calm, ordered and supportive environment where relationships flourish between staff and students. A clear focus is maintained on excellent teaching and learning, and we encourage the boys to aim high in all that they do. We strive to equip them with the skills, knowledge and personal attributes required to grasp any opportunity before them. Teaching staff are animated and passionate about teaching boys, promoting lifelong learning and responsible 21st century citizenship.
Whilst the only all boys’ school in Oxfordshire, we are collaborative partners in the Ridgeway Education Trust – a multi-academy trust committed to educational excellence – and share our 16-19 provision with Didcot Girls’ School in the form of Didcot Sixth Form, now based on the St Birinus site. We value this partnership hugely and see it as a driving force for developing educational provision in Didcot and its surrounding area both now and in the future.
The touchstones and the bedrock of our learning community are our school values - “Inspiring Excellence through Care, Courtesy and Commitment”. You can read more about our vision and values here. Students and staff ensure that our values are tangible and real. Our values contribute to an ambitious and driven culture which delivers excellent results, well above average nationally, for the boys year on year. With a relentless focus on high expectation and excellent standards of organisation, personal presentation and behaviour, well-pitched teaching and learning engage and inspire.
The curriculum and extra-curricular offer here at St Birinus is both rich and broad – Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, traditional bastions of male interest, thrive yet Photography, Art, Dance, Drama, Music and Modern Foreign Languages, including the recent introduction of Mandarin Chinese, are all well represented and flourishing subjects. Outside of the classroom, the provision is outstanding. Inclusive and elite sports are complemented with memorable joint drama productions across the Trust and a wealth of other opportunity and clubs.
St Birinus School is a very special community where we are exceptionally proud of the boys and their spirit, individuality, endeavour, resilience, loyalty and good humour. If you would like to visit us, you will be made very welcome.
