What skills and experience we're looking for

We're seeking a passionate and skilled Teacher of Science to join our successful Science Department. This is an exceptional opportunity to be part of a growing school that opened in 2018 and now serves over 1,200 students across Years 7-13.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Delivery and development of KS3 Science
  • Delivery and development of KS4 Combined Science
  • Potential involvement in the delivery and development of KS4 Triple Science and A-Level Science (specialism dependent)
  • Contribution to departmental and curriculum development
  • Support for enrichment activities, extracurricular programmes, and academic interventions

An 11 – 19 secondary school which opened in September 2018, Derby Cathedral School was established by Derby Diocesan Academy Trust (DDAT) and Derby Cathedral to help meet the need for additional high-quality secondary places in the Derby area. The school has had a successful start and is currently over-subscribed for every year group. We currently have 1015 students across Years 7 to 12 following the opening of our brand new sixth form provision in September 2023.
Derby Cathedral School is the first ever Church of England Secondary school in the Diocese and after being in our temporary school for the first three years, moved to our new state-of-the-art building in September 2021. This is located close to the city centre.
The school equips students with skills and qualifications that will enable them to access high-quality careers in and around the city of Derby and beyond. The curriculum offer is broad and balanced and is enhanced by strong links with the Cathedral. The curriculum and our character values, based on the acronym FAITH, are a key part of the school vision and represent a platform from which we build high levels of personal development, well-being and achievement from Year 7 onwards.

Just on the edge of the beautiful Peak District National Park, Derby is just 15 minutes from the M1 junction 24 and accessible via the A6, A50, A38 and A52.
