What skills and experience we're looking for
We are seeking a well-qualified and enthusiastic science graduate to grow and enhance our large and successful science team, as a result of recent increase in the uptake of science courses post-16, Psychology at KS4 and pupil intake in KS3.
The science department is a highly successful one, making a significant contribution to EBacc progress scores that are consistently significantly above the national average. In 2023, KS4 science value added was significantly above national and in the top 28% of all schools. Attainment across all courses in KS5 is also strong, with Biology A level in the top 20% of all schools. We would expect the successful candidate to teach all Science disciplines at Key Stage 3 and in Key Stage 4 Combined Science and their specialist subject in KS4 Triple Science. We offer the full range of science courses in the sixth form and therefore applicants should have the ability to teach A level or BTEC level 3 Applied Science at Key Stage 5. We also offer GCSE and A level Psychology within the Science department.

‘Swanshurst School has been a great environment for my first term as an ECT. The support I have received from my department and the mentoring team has been amazing and is ongoing. I couldn’t wish for a better place to spend the first of hopefully many years of teaching.’ (ECT)
Ofsted (2017) found pupils at Swanshurst to be “happy, well cared for and that they secure excellent academic and personal outcomes” they described the girls as “polite, respectful and courteous”. Needless to say, we are incredibly proud of them and of all our staff who contribute to the “purposeful learning culture within the school that characterises the work of staff and pupils”
