Teacher of Science job summary

We aim to develop world class students who have the belief in themselves that anything is possible. This is a good school with great students and ambitious and talented staff. We want each of our students to aspire to be the best they can be without any limitations and it is important to us that our teachers feel the same.

The successful candidate will be joining a dynamic and well-led curriculum area. You will need to be able to teach all three sciences to GCSE and, as science is popular at A level, the ability to teach to A level is desirable, with a Physics specialism, but this is not essential. Each member of our science team has a dedicated lab and are well supported by three technicians.

We want you to apply if you are hungry to grow and learn, have a keen interest in becoming the best teacher you can be, building effective relationships and transferring to students the same love for your subject that you yourself will have.

We place high importance on training and collaboration. Taking time to reflect, evaluate and plan together is paramount. Therefore, our curriculum areas have regular team meetings and the opportunity to develop their teaching and leadership. We run an extensive internal CPDL programme personalised to meet staff needs, and offer recognised NPQ, SLE programmes or off-site training for colleagues at appropriate points in their career.

Educational research is fundamental to school improvement however we only implement what we feel will make the biggest difference to the lives and outcomes of our young people. As such we are seen as a key provider of initial teacher training in the local area and regularly share good practice across Buckinghamshire, through both the Astra and Canons Park Teaching School Alliances.

Our staff tell us they genuinely feel like part of a team; a team who are striving to help each student flourish both academically and personally. That is important to us, if we are going to embody our vision and if you are our kind of teacher, it will be important to you too.

Our students and staff are keen to meet you and show off our fantastic school, so why not come and visit before you apply? This post would suit an NQT or a more experienced teacher and we very much welcome interested candidates to contact us to arrange an informal visit.

Please contact Hazel Baxter on 01273 729465 or email hazel.baxter@hays.com to arrange a tour or if you would like to receive an application pack.

The closing date for applications is Midday 16 October. Interviews will take place on Monday 21 October. We would consider an earlier start date for the right candidate. Please email your application to: hazel.baxter@hays.com
