Teacher of Science job summary

Our school has a strong local reputation and has been oversubscribed for several years. We are a successful school, with expanding 11-18 provision, and the majority of students spend their entire journey with us.

Our most important purpose is to teach young people things they would not learn outside school which empower them. We strive to ‘bring out the best’ in every child, regardless of their background, prior attainment or needs. We are committed to providing ‘Education with Character’ – we want young people to look back on a schooling that has inspired and challenged them. It is our aim that all students leave us with the skills and attributes required to be lifelong learners and positive role models both in their community, and globally.

We are unapologetically ambitious for our students to succeed in life and encourage every staff member to commit to our school vision:

  • We will be an aspirational, high achieving school of choice for children and staff in the North West.

  • We will be at the heart of the community creating lifelong learners where everyone is proud and happy to belong.

  • We will create opportunities and experiences which broaden horizons and create lifelong memories.

As a school we encourage our staff to work creatively together and our core Team Values underpin how we operate:

#TeamAA

Truth - We will tell the truth to ourselves and each other, even when it's hard.

Effort - We will work hard individually and as a team and never give up.

Ambition - We will always aim high and challenge ourselves to be the best we can be.

Manners - We will respect everyone in our school and treat everyone with kindness.

About the role:

We are seeking to appoint an experienced, enthusiastic and highly motivated strong team player to join our Science Department. The post provides an excellent opportunity for a leadership role within the department based on individual expertise and experience. You will need to be an energetic and committed individual who strives to ‘bring out the best’ in your own and student’s work every day.

The successful applicant will play an integral role in contributing to the success of students’ outcomes in Science at KS3 to KS5. You will be required to have up to date knowledge of the most effective teaching and learning practices and be able to demonstrate these in your own day to day teaching and assist others in further developing as outstanding classroom practitioners.

The Science Department is committed to providing high quality teaching and learning for all students and the post presents an ideal opportunity to work in a positive and supportive environment. We have strong links with STEM Science and the United Learning Science Advisors Team

We are looking for a Teacher of Science who:

  • Is passionate about their subject and is a great practitioner with high expectations and good classroom management.

  • Is committed to continuous improvement.

  • Can demonstrate excellent organisational and inter-personal skills and the ability to contribute to a team.

  • Has commitment to our school’s vision and values.

  • Has a desire and passion to make a real difference to the lives and life-chances of all of our students.

This is the perfect opportunity to work in a supportive and stimulating environment. If you would like to arrange a tour of the Academy or if you have any questions about the role please contact the Principal’s PA, Sandra Chadburn at sandra.chadburn@accrington-academy.org

Safeguarding Statement:
