What skills and experience we're looking for
We are seeking to appoint a colleague who shares our ambition to ensure that every young person at Samuel King’s School achieves their personal best. You will join a team of experienced and committed teachers, who work in a very collaborative and supportive way. Our children are delightful, and our community are very supportive of the school and our staff. Working in our unique federation will also give you excellent opportunities to work in a cross-phase setting, expanding your skills by working with children across all age ranges.
We would welcome applications from both experienced teachers and ECTs. It is a Federation policy to offer pay portability to colleagues on UPS elsewhere.
Please do not hesitate to contact the school should you wish to discuss the role further or arrange a visit. A visit to the school before an application is made is welcomed.
Application pack is available on the school website.

What the school offers its staff
We are a small, community based, school with a long tradition of serving local children and their families. We aim to be caring and inclusive, while still providing an excellent academic grounding for all our children. We highly value being small, being able to get to know each child and their family very well, and being at the heart of this vibrant community.
We are also very proud of our academic record. Children at SKS achieve conspicuously well. However, we are also focused on developing the whole child, and pay as much attention to social skills and personal development as we do to academic excellence.
The school was last inspected by Ofsted in July 2022 which confirmed us as a “good school. The inspector verbally described us as “flying forward”. We now believe we have the capacity to be judged “Outstanding” at our next inspection. We are looking to recruit a person who are able to deliver superb teaching and learning and an excellent experience for our children.
Commitment to safeguarding
Alston Moor Federation is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful candidate will be subject to pre-employment checks which will include an enhanced DBS check, along with two satisfactory references.

Alston Moor Federation was created in 2015 as the merger of Samuel King’s School, Alston Primary School and Nenthead Primary School. We are all community schools, and we work closely with Cumbria Local Authority. We have a very prominent site in the middle of Alston, which accommodates both Samuel King’s School and Alston Primary School. Nenthead Primary school is approximately five miles away in a nearby village. Our modern site provides excellent facilities in the interesting town of Alston in the wonderful North Pennines countryside. There are currently 220 students on roll, with around 100 pupils in Samuel King’s School.
This post will be mainly focused on working in our secondary school, Samuel King’s School, and the ability to offer a related subject would be helpful. The post is available as the school is growing and we need to be able to teach an increasing number of children whose parents are choosing Samuel King’s School.
