What skills and experience we're looking for
We are currently looking to appoint a dedicated and inspiring Teacher of Science to join our team. The Science Department is one of the most successful departments at Barnwood Park not just in terms of results but also in how much the student’s value and enjoy Science. In addition to the six Science laboratories we use for teaching, the school has three ICT suites, and the department has a set of laptops that can be used to enhance the students’ learning. The laboratories are fully equipped for practical activities and are arranged around three prep rooms. At Key Stage 3 we follow a knowledge-based curriculum where students also develop the skills necessary to progress successfully in science. The department have worked hard to ensure the curriculum is constantly evolving to meet the needs of all the learners and that intervention areas are identified and addressed. At Key Stage 4 students’ study the AQA Combined Science Trilogy course. GCSE results in Science are high and have placed the Science Department among the highest achieving in the school. The successful candidate will teach Biology, Chemistry and Physics at Key Stage 3 and 4. At Barnwood Park, you will join a dedicated team of teachers and staff supporting our vibrant students. Main Areas of Responsibility
The main purpose of your role will be:
• To implement and deliver an appropriately broad, balanced, relevant and differentiated curriculum for students and to support a designated curriculum area as appropriate and contribute to raising standards of student attainment.
• To monitor and support the overall progress and development of students.
• To facilitate and encourage a learning experience which provides students with the opportunity to achieve their individual potential, including through offering a wide range of extra-curricular opportunities.
Qualifications & Experience
The successful candidate will:
• Hold QTS (or equivalent) and a relevant undergraduate degree
• Have successful teaching experience at secondary level
• Understand the theory and practice of effective teaching and learning
• Have knowledge of National Curriculum requirements at KS3 and KS4, and of writing lesson plans, developing resources and assessing students' work
• Be able to work as part of a team and to develop and maintain positive relationships with all staff
• Have a good level of ICT skills,
• Be able to create a motivating and safe learning environment for all students
• Have good written and spoken communication skills and be able to communicate positively with parents, carers and other external agencies where necessary
• Be able to lead and manage their own work effectively
• Be able to motivate students and raise their aspirations through a range of strategies

Barnwood Park is a co-educational 11-16 comprehensive school.
