Purpose

The Science Faculty at RFSS
The successful candidate will be part of a strong team, supported by three technicians. In addition to the
Director of Learning of Science there are KS3 and KS5 leads along with Subject Leads for Biology, Chemistry
and Physics.
Science is taught in ten dedicated laboratories. All labs are wireless networked and have data projectors and screens. There is also a multipurpose lecture space available within the Science department for STEM days
and visiting lecturers.
At KS3, students follow an adapted "Activate" course and are taught in mixed ability classes.
At KS4 all students are either studying for Combined Science [Trilogy] or separate sciences.
At KS5 we offer A levels in Biology (AQA), Chemistry (AQA) and Physics (AQA). As a new Sixth Form in the area
our take-up of Science is good in a competitive area with record numbers applying to RFSS this year for the September 2023 academic year. We also offer BTEC National Level 3 Extended Certificate in Applied Science.

Core duties as main scale teacher
Teaching and Learning and Assessment
To teach Science across the age and ability range
To develop schemes of learning and resources for Science.
To prepare students for external examinations and assessments as directed by the Director of Learning -Science
To undertake an appropriate programme of teaching in accordance with the duties of a main scale teacher
Key Tasks
To prepare and deliver lessons according to school/departmental schemes of work
To mark and assess students’ work according to the school/departmental policies
To attend and contribute to relevant meetings
To play an active part in the long-term development of the Department
To play a full part in the allocated Head of Year Team – including carrying out duties as a form tutor, if appropriate
