Teacher of Science job summary

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic Teacher of Science to join our team of experienced Science teachers at Cirencester Deer Park School from 2 September 2019. This is an ideal opportunity for a Newly Qualified Teacher to take his/her first step on the career ladder in teaching and further develop his/her skills.

As a high performing comprehensive school in the South Cotswolds, Cirencester Deer Park is committed to providing outstanding education and developing our staff. A full induction programme is in place to support NQTs and all new staff.

Our Science faculty has a long history of outstanding performance. They are a supportive, professional and highly dedicated team with two common goals: to guide every pupil to their highest level of attainment possible and to develop every teacher to become outstanding. The faculty enjoys its own building on the very pleasant Deer Park site, with a suite of 8 purpose built laboratories with a central prep-room. Each lab is fully equipped. Two labs are also ICT rooms, one with dual use. We value highly our specialist Science TA and three full-time technicians, who work closely with teachers to prepare for and support learning and raise achievement. The Science faculty is very much one cohesive team, working with well-established systems that are time-efficient.

Our Science staff have a strong tradition of mutual support and resource sharing so that best practice spreads quickly through the faculty. The faculty are never complacent, continually considering if lessons or assessments could be improved. They love to plan practical activities and exciting demonstrations. Science is rated as an ‘outstanding’ faculty, with an extensive record of developing staff from Good to Outstanding teachers. Science staff travel from as far afield as Malmesbury, Cheltenham, Chippenham and Bristol to work within the team. We participate in local networks and regularly share schemes of learning and other resources with schools within the Local Authority and beyond.

Commitment to safeguarding

We are committed to the safeguarding of our pupils and employment is subject to an Enhanced Disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service and the receipt of satisfactory references.

Our Ofsted Report in January 2023 confirmed: "Leaders have established a strong culture of safeguarding. Appropriate checks are made on adults working in the school. Staff understand the priority that should be given to safeguarding. They receive effective training and report concerns about pupils or adults appropriately."
